Assaggio

Assaggio Ristorante on Urbanspoon

Home made orange juice has very bitter aftertaste.

RICOTTA WITH QUEENS CONSERVE
7/10

(if I heard correctly. Complimentary.)

Pleasant but slightly desserty.

(PASTA) PESCATORE
6/10

Head waiter takes some cajoling to depart from telling me that everyone likes everything on the menu. Seems to be prawny. I spent most of this guy’s time getting an (Italian) dish name. No time for descriptions.

I assumed pesce > fish. Here, it equalled seafood, but with some chilli. I probably should’ve abandoned my usual “what’s the dish that the most people like?” question, and done my own research here. The prawns and scallops were nicely done, but the pasta was short ribbons in a fairly mild and standard tomato cream sauce. Plus chilli.

PANNA COTTA
4/10

Sweet vanilla anise, with a subtle citrus & Galliano flavoured cream with braised wild raspberry sauce accompanied by crisp fried Italian pastry.

That description sounded fantastic. What I actually got was a very mild and slightly soft panna cotta, with an overpowering berry sauce. I poured most of the sauce out before continuing to eat the panna cotta. I tasted nothing alcoholic or anise or citrus or anything else here.
