Sheoak Cafe
Normally, this place is open only for lunch, but on Fridays, it's open for later feedings.
The place is full of old furniture and bric-a-brac, and there's internal use of galvanised iron.
With pomme de terre purée, French beans and roasted tomato with herbed butter.
The big chunks of beef are a little on the tough side, but have soaked up some of the taste of the vegetables they're cooked in. I can detect a herbiness here, but I can't recognise it. Turns out its both thyme and bay leaf.
This is certainly not fine cuisine. It's just simple, well-executed home cooking.
With almond & pistachio biscotti.
This was the only complicated thing on the dessert menu, so I ordered it. It's much better than I thought it would be. The custard has a reasonably strong eggy taste, and a good smooth consistency and more solid viscosity. However, the toffee on top is too much like a solid layer of sugar. It tastes like sugar, and breaks up into granules.
This place is in the wrong price category on Urbanspoon, but its simple feed was still quite acceptable.
