April 2015
Back where it all began — Skyline. Two years ago, ravenous, and on the hunt for feed, I came here. I took a photo of my feed, and posted it to Facebook. That was the beginning of The Feed Report.
This place sits atop Rydges, at the intersection of West and South Terraces. The view over the parklands is nice, but I've been seated against the far wall, away from the windows.
The cordial Indian waiter recommends the wenison, so I oblige.
The proprietor welcomes me back, and notes it's been a while since my last visit. This is a good trick. All you restaraturds out there take notice. :)
There is no Diet Coke. I am reduced to drinking lemon, lime and bitters. Not very slimming.
It's Tuesday, a very quiet day for restaurants, so there's no one else here. The proprietor has a yarn with me for a few minutes.
A milestone in Feed Report history has been reached.
FREE FEED!!!
I'm not talking about when I get things refunded. This is my first complimentary invitation to a restaurant. Lots of places have contacted me, saying "come on down anytime", but none were actually offering anything.
This place rates fairly well though, so I shouldn't find myself in the awkward situation where I have to say bad things about the feed. :)
This restaurant contains all the things you'd expect in a typical North Adelaide restaurant. Tables, chairs, a small yellow car…
This old chemist shop on Hindley Street still has all the old wares in a cabinet, behind me. If I get indigestion, I'll just take a swig of Bickford's hydrogen peroxide.
The waitress hands me a wine list, but not the food menu. She never returns to my table to ask if I'd like to order a drink.
Sean seems to also have a dining room.
Busy tonight, so I'm going to be seated outside, like one of those dogs leashed to a pole. :(
While I wait at the bar, I'm given free popcorn! I eat the popcorn. The salty, salty popcorn. :|
I guess I'm not really waiting to be seated here. I'm waiting for a table to free up. I was told they were preparing a table for me.
After fifteen minutes waiting at the bar and not buying a drink, I'm taken outside. There are numerous unoccupied, prepared tables out here.
This place does very home-cooked traditional Swiss food. Definitely the place to go when taking some "I don't like fancy food" Luddite out to dinner. :)
It's a busy night, and there's no room at the inn. I'm forced to go walkies around the Glenelg foreshore, before returning to feast.
This is the best restaurant in Glenelg, according to moi. Ambient is also decent. Everything else I've had down here has been average at best.
Orana is the wackiest and most interesting restaurant I've been to. On my last visit, I didn't like a lot of the food, but it was a fascinating experience for a feedie like me. :)
Tonight will be degustation.
On my way here, I follow a giant rat that's made a home in a drain. If times get tough, I'll go back and revisit him.
I arrive at La Bonne Table, where I'm greeted by a waitress I recognise from another restaurant. She comes armed with pre-knowledge of my hatred of coriander. :)
