November 2014
I haven't booked, so I'm forced to sit at a table for five people. :)
I'm not sure what a Tombola is, so I check the dictionary. In English, it's "a lottery in which tickets are drawn from a revolving drum." This sounds bad. Maybe they'll draw my dinner from a revolving drum. :(
Excellent tip: Some places will give you complimentary bread before your meal. If they ask you if you want it, it's because it costs. I mention this now because tonight was the exception. I was asked if I wanted free bread. I calculated that this offer was in my favour, and accepted it. :)
1877? I hope that's not the price. :|
It was a long drive up here to Modbury. Other than a few at Port Adelaide, there are almost no fancy restaurants north of the CBD.
Seated by the big open window. Very seaside.
I've been to Vileroy before, and found it did not live up to its name. The food was not vile, and there was no one called Roy here. (I did ask.)
There's a whole lot of shouting going on here. I discover it's some kind of a quiz night. It's disrupting my feed time! I can get aggressive if my feeding is disturbed.
This balcony also has a roof, and walls. More importantly, it also contains feed. (Most balconies do not contain feed.)
This place's specialty is its "stonegrill". They give you raw meat on a very hot slab of stone, and you cook it. That sounds very novel, but I don't know what would make it taste good, if I could even cook it properly. I'd rather leave the cooking to the professionals, and just focus on the eating. :)
Oops went to a hotel, in the city, on Friday night. Music is loud, and the place is packed. There are noisy tables free near the bar, but I've taken my chances outside, in the beer garden. It's quite nice out here. Most people out here are overflow from the main room, but I'm sure I'll have to put up with the occasional cancer stick tonight.
There's one now. :|
Right. I'm also perched next to a plant full of potting mix.
And now there's the loud hooting of a car alarm…
At the Stirling Hotel, in the centre of Stirling.
I think my drinks are pouring extra-slowly. :) Mr. Diet Coke eventually arrives, but his friend Mr. Filtered Water hasn't joined him for the trip. Service is otherwise friendly and attentive.
I'm brought a little cloth bag with pieces of bread in it.
Waitress: "This is some baguette."
Daniel: "Bag-ette?" :D
Waitress: :|
A boy at a neighbouring table dons his bag-ette as a fez.
This place prides itself on its friendly atmosphere and lack of pokies
Damn you Nick Xenophon! I only brought one dollar with me. I was planning on winning big and turning it into enough for a three-course meal. :(
This is probably Adelaide's fanciest normal restaurant.
Lenzerheide is uncharacteristically full tonight. I'll come back in twenty minutes. Someone will have left by then.
The carpark leads to a bit of a walking track, so I decide to go and walk off my dinner in advance. That does work, right? :|
I've found a children's playground with swings! Whee!!! :)
I'm hungry. :(
25 minutes later, I'm in. :)
Halp! There's a fire on Unley!
This is like a very fancy pizza place. However, they do do other feeds here.
I've headed into the Adelaide Hills for dinner tonight. What a sterling idea!
The Stirling Hotel has two reasonably fancy restaurants within it. However, The Bistro (the less fancy of the two) is undergoing repairs, so everyone is packed into The Grill, which doesn't seem to have enough extra staff rostered on. The menu is The Bistro's, despite where I'm sitting.
There's no service tonight. You sit where you like, and order at the bar (which is slow.)
