March 2015
All the couches are occupied by glamorous women. I ask the waitress what's going on. She tells me, unofficially, that she thinks there's a Miss Universe event on here.
I'd go and check it out, but I don't want them all bothering me.
This place doesn't have a high rating on Urbanspoon, but it's incredibly popular. At 2 King William Road, it's diagonally opposite Parliament.
The old building has been preserved, with its circa 1950 decor, and its cavernous main room. It's like a train station. There are 100+ people in here.
I'm perched at the bar at a small kitchen island. A proper table would be almost two hours, but this bar seat is very comfy, so I'm happy.
The place is almost empty. Apparently a band is coming in later. I'll ask if they'd like my autograph. :)
Unlike Shrek, who is a green ogre, Red Ochre is a restaurant specialising in native cuisine.
The waitress welcomes me back.
I'm perched at the edge of the room, looking down on the fountain in the River Torrens.
This place is a more authentic Italian restaurant. Many of the staff and patrons are Italian, and the menu is one of the confusing Italian ones.
The older waiter spots me, and welcomes me, shaking my hand.
"Buona sera. I can get you a nicer table if you like."
My current table has enough legs, and a solid top, so I decline.
The waitress knows what I've eaten on a previous visit. This is happening a lot lately. More often than not, people know who I am. I'm becoming infamous. :)
This place used to be Chianti Classico. Now it's less classic. Just "Chianti". Probably got tired of all the "classic" gags.
I'm seated outside, with the rabble, and other people who didn't book.
Unlike the fictional dog Benji, Kenji is an avant-garde Japanese restaurant at the south end of Hutt Street.
Traditional Japanese feed is usually too simple to interest me, but Kenji's food is far more complex and interesting.
Nine months into the 2014-2015 cycle, I've run out of restaurants. I've been scratching around for new, cheap, and distant places, but it's not enough.
I'm also "depleting" numerous restaurants. After five visits, I've eaten all their good food, all their desserts, and sometimes even their urinal cakes.
Therefore, a new cycle is beginning! It will last the rest of the year.
I can go to all the great restaurants again!
After attending a restaurant with a locked door, chairs on its tables, and no service, I've had to make other plans.
I'm at tapas restaurant SAH - one of the best restaurants in North Adelaide. I rate it second only to Red Ochre, on the Torrens.
Tonight, FEED WITH FRIENDS!
Friends have randomly decamped to a restaurant, which happens to be fancy enough for me. They will bear witness to my expert feedings.
Tonight will be a tapas kind of a deal. I ask for no coriander, using the high-effectiveness "I'm allergic" trick. :)
